Oppo is teasing a new pair of flagships that appear to be jumping on the 'notch' bandwagon. The Chinese giant shared a silhouetted image of a new device on Weibo (via GSMArena), alongside the monikers "R15" and "R15 Plus", which shares a striking similarity to the iPhone X.
Aside from the rectangular cut-out at the top of the display, there isn't too much to go on. If you squint, however, it's possible to just make out a very tiny bezel around the phone's 'chin'. Combined with what appears to be a near edge-to-edge display, it seems likely that Oppo's latest will be packing quite a high screen-to-body ratio.
Very little else is known about the Oppo R15 and R15 Plus, but there's some speculation that the pair will launch rocking Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box with Color OS 4.0 on top, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 700 series chipset sat under the hood. Some form of 3D sensing technology – with support for facial recognition security and animated emojis – has also been rumored.
Until we see the R15 series in the flesh, the main takeaway for now is that Oppo joins a growing list of Android OEMs that have taken 'inspiration' from Apple's premium flagship for their latest devices.
With Android P's development team reportedly making a concerted effort to support iPhone X-style notches, I very much doubt that Oppo, Asus, and seemingly Huawei and LG, will be the only manufacturers to embrace #notchlife in the not-to-distant future.
