Editor's Note: This list of the best phones under 500 pounds will be updated regularly as new mid-range devices are released.
There are a lot of great phones on U.K. store shelves today, but many either cost 700 pounds (or more) to buy outright or are tied to expensive two-year contracts. That might be a way to get hold of the latest and greatest, but it's certainly not for everyone.
Don't miss: Where to buy phones in the U.K.
These days you don't have to spend a fortune to pick up a great handset. So if you're looking for a more reasonably priced phone under 500 pounds, this guide has you covered.
Here are the best phones under 500 pounds in the U.K..
OnePlus 5T
The OnePlus 5 was a solid smartphone, but it wasn't really up to 2017's design standards. OnePlus changed quite a bit with the OnePlus 5T.
The first thing you'll notice with the 5T is its big 6.01-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display, with an all-new 18:9 aspect ratio. Most of the other specs are the same as the OnePlus 5's, but the camera was altered. Where the OnePlus 5 had a telephoto lens, the 5T now sports a secondary 20 MP sensor which uses a fancy new technology called Intelligent Pixel Technology to take better low-light photos.
The 5T changed its biometric security features too. Not only has the fingerprint sensor moved around to the back, you can also unlock the 5T using face recognition. It's super fast, but occasionally misses for some reason.
Perhaps the biggest missing feature on the 5T is an IP rating for dust and water resistance, which pretty much every other flagship device has. If you can get past that, the OnePlus 5T will be a great option for most people — especially because it costs a fraction of the price of most competing smartphones.

Honor View 10
With powerful flagship-tier hardware, a stylish design, and a price point that's just half of the premium alternatives, we dubbed the Honor View 10 the best alternative to the "flagship killer" (the OnePlus 5T) for a good reason.
Internally you'll find the same high performance Kirin 970 SoC, 128GB of storage, and 6GB of RAM that Huawei includes in its much more expensive Mate 10 Pro flagship. If you're looking for a fast phone, the View 10 has you covered. Huawei also brought its camera prowess to a cheaper price point, packing in a dual 16 MP and 20 MP rear camera combination. Its vibrant 1080p, 6-inch display boasts the increasingly popular 18:9 display aspect ratio. It runs Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box and its large 3,750 mAh battery will get you though even a busy day on your phone.
Unfortunately you can't have absolutely everything from a flagship package at this price point. There's no OIS in the camera, which means video shakiness and low light photography isn't the very best. There's also no IP rating for water or dust resistance, so you won't want to get this phone wet. Still, the Honor View 10 is a solid package at this price point, with a value proposition that is virtually unrivalled.

LG G6
The LG G6 is a little older than other phones in this list of best phones under 500 pounds in the U.K., but don't let that dissuade you, older models are often exceptional bargains. This is one of last year's best flagship phones and its deprecated value only makes it that much better of a deal.
At this price you can have virtually all the extra bells and whistles found in today's most expensive phones, like a high density QHD+ (2880 x 1440) HDR display, IP68 dust and water resistance, a USB Type-C port, Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging, 4GB of RAM, and up to 128GB of internal memory with a microSD card slot. There's also a dual 13MP camera combination, with a wide angle lens option to fit more into your shots.
Arguably the only real drawback with the LG G6 is its older Snapdragon 821 processor, which was released in 2016. However, compared to the majority of other chipsets in this price bracket, the Snapdragon 821 is still a top performer. The only faster phones on our best phones under 500 pounds list, at least on paper, are the OnePlus 5T and Honor View 10, but you'll be hard pressed to find a notable instance where performance actually differs.

Moto G5 Plus
Not sold on those slightly more pricey options? The Moto G5 Plus is a great alternative in the cheap phones list. Lenovo's Moto G5 Plus is one of the best low-cost Android phones on the market.
Its 1080p display is vibrant and perfect for watching YouTube videos and surfing the web. Its big 3,000 mAh battery will keep you going all day long. Its Snapdragon 625 processor, coupled with 2-4GB of RAM (depending on the storage version you get), can basically handle anything you throw at it.
For those of you interested in a bare-bones software experience, you'll be happy to hear the G5 Plus runs a very slimmed-down version of Android 7.0 Nougat. It's a reliable, sleek, and inexpensive phone.
