Redmi Note 5 Pro gets 1080p/60fps recording via MIUI 10

  • The latest MIUI 10 beta includes an option for 1080p video recording at 60fps for the Redmi Note 5 Pro.
  • Up until now, Redmi Note 5 Pro owners could record up to 1080p video at 30fps.
  • The update does not include a setting for 4K video recording.

Even though Xiaomi bills the Redmi Note 5 Pro as "India's camera beast," the phone does not include options to record in 4K or in 1080p at 60fps. That looks to change in the Chinese version of the MIUI 10 beta, reported XDA Developers.

To see the setting for yourself, go into the default camera's settings and scroll down until you see the option to change the video quality. Based on the screenshot below, you still have the options to record 1080p video at 30fps, 720p video at 30fps, and 480p video at 30fps.

We do not know if the 1080p/60fps setting uses electronic image stabilization (EIS) to counter your trembling hands when recording. The 1080p/30fps setting uses EIS, so the same could be said of the new setting.

However, there does not yet appear to be an option to record in 4K. You can enable the setting if you root the Redmi Note 5 Pro, though the phone does not officially support it. This is weird, since the Redmi Note 5 Pro's Snapdragon 636 supports up to 4K video recording at 30fps.

Also keep in mind that the 1080p/60fps setting was found in the Chinese MIUI 10 ROM. The setting will likely make its way to the global ROM, so keep an eye out.

Announced in May, MIUI 10 includes a new Recents menu, increased responsiveness, a driving mode that lets you issue voice commands through the Xiao AI voice assistant, and a slew of AI enhancements that will allocate resources to the apps you use the most.

Folks also noticed smaller changes in MIUI 10, such as default monochrome notification icons, redesigned volume and brightness sliders, and a software-based portrait mode for single-camera devices.
