Giving S3 to my son - what about the sim card

I am not real clear on this. I am giving my S3 to my son. I plan on doing a factory reset before I give him the phone. Can he use it with my sim card, or does he have to get a new one? If he has to get a new one, I am assuming that he can just go to a Verizon store ... correct? Thanks in...
