How important is high performance 3D gaming to you? (Poll of the Week)

Last week's poll summary: Out of almost 2,000 total votes, 60.5 percent of our readers said that battery life is more important than smartphone performance, while 39.5 percent said performance is more important. The results were mixed on our social channels. 57 percent of YouTube voters said they prefer performance over battery life, as well as 47 percent of Twitter voters, 55 percent of Instagram voters, and 51 percent of Facebook voters.

Smartphone games are getting really good, but they're also getting more resource intensive. Titles like PUBG MobileRiptide, or Asphalt can certainly ask a lot of your smartphone. If you play graphic-intensive games, you should probably consider buying a phone that's able to run these types of games.

Thankfully, most mid- to high-end phones should be able to run these titles without a hitch, and that's because smartphone GPUs are getting more powerful and energy efficient. For instance, Arm's new Mali-G76 GPU, which was announced alongside the Cortex-A76 CPU, seems to be a big step up from its last generation of graphics processors. Arm claims that the new Mali-G76 GPU is roughly twice as powerful as the Mali-G72, as well as 30 percent more energy efficient. That means phones will be able to run even more graphic-intensive games and last even longer.
