Happy Friday to the Android Authority community, both new and seasoned. This is Comment Authority, our weekly roundup of the most notable of your comments from articles published on the site over the past seven days. This week had some really terrific comments on topics as wide-ranging as the possible sale of Essential to the new YouTube Music service that Google hopes will steal some market share from Spotify.
Without any further ado, let's read some of the best comments of the week!
Essential's big mistake was hubris
The Essential Phone is one of the most interesting smartphones to see release over the past few years. It was designed by the father of Android himself, Andy Rubin, and was the first device to market that featured the now-ever-present notch.
But Essential isn't selling the PH-1 as much as it would like, and as such the Essential Phone 2 has been canceled and the company might put itself up for sale.
One reader by the name of Justin Lewis thinks he knows exactly why Essential is limping along right now, and it's actually a pretty solid theory:
HMD Global is doing the Nokia brand right
Only a few days ago, we told you how HMD Global — the company that owns the rights to the Nokia mobile phone brand — promises to bring Android P to every single Nokia phone the company has released thus far. That's something that virtually no other smartphone brand has ever said.
Nokia-lovers jumped to the comments section of the article with praise for the brand and the phones, but one particular commenter elevated the conversation by discussing HMD Global's use of the Android One operating system. Check out what DonSerrot had to say below:
There is one thing that could push YouTube Music above the competition
Google has tried multiple times to stake out its share of the music streaming market, but so far it hasn't been successful. That's why the company is betting big on its new YouTube Music offering which will marry the features of Google Play Music and the current YouTube Music and create a streaming powerhouse.
Our initial review of the service was positive, but we noted that it's still missing a lot of features. One commenter named Alexandre P. has a really terrific idea of how YouTube Music could rise above its rivals to make something truly awesome:
I'm gonna need a source on that one
We truly love to pit phones against each other to see which one is better. With so many offerings available, it can be tricky to decide between two similarly-priced smartphones with equal features.
Our recent cage match between the LG G7 ThinQ and the Samsung Galaxy S9 resulted in the surprising win of the G7. But one commenter by the name of Jeremy dropped a pretty unbelievable statistic in regards to our complaint about fingerprint marks on the backs of all-glass phones:
Hope everyone has a great weekend! Tickets are on sale now for a bunch of summer blockbusters, including Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and The Incredibles 2; which one are you most excited to see?
