How fast will the Huawei Mate XS charge? Evidence suggests a ludicrous speed.

Huawei Mate X Foldable Phone Hands On display unfolded

The Huawei Mate X launched earlier this year (albeit not in a global fashion) and we expect an iterative upgrade to land sometime in the first half of 2020. This device, which we expect to be called the Huawei Mate XS, will have a similar design to the Mate X with some spec and feature tweaks.

One of those tweaks could be an incredibly fast charging speed. According to an official filing through a Chinese regulatory agency, the Huawei Mate XS could sport 65W charging (via XDA Developers). This is a notable increase over the 55W charging speed of the Mate X.

There are rumors that 2020 flagships from Huawei could all sport 65W charging speeds, including the already-confirmed Huawei P40 Pro. For the record, only a small handful of smartphones sport such a fast charging speed, most notably the Oppo Reno Ace.

To be clear, the regulatory listing doesn't directly reference the Mate XS. Instead, it refers to a Huawei device with the model number TAH-AN00m. The Mate XS has a codename of Tahiti, so the TAH is likely a reference to this.

The listing also doesn't appear to confirm any other spec upgrades for the Huawei Mate XS, although we do expect it to come with the Kirin 990 processor, an upgrade over the Kirin 980 offered in the Mate X.

The Huawei Mate XS is expected at Mobile World Congress 2020, which happens towards the end of February. However, don't expect a launch of the device in too many countries (or Google apps), as Huawei still has lots of problems when it comes to that.
