5 Android apps you shouldn’t miss this week! – Android Apps Weekly

Welcome to the 281st edition of Android Apps Weekly! Let's check out the headlines from the last week!

  • We ran a user poll to see how people use Google Assistant. The answers were actually rather interesting. There was no single use case that dominated over any others, but most people seem to use it for things like weather, asking general questions, playing music, and controlling their smartphone tech. Hit the link to see the poll and all of its answers.
  • Nintendo announced a release date for Mario Kart Tour this week. It should launch on September 25th. A closed beta with a strict NDA went out a couple of months ago and we got to try it out. However, we can't talk about it until the game launches. Hit the link to check out all we can tell you about Mario Kart Tour or click here to pre-register on Google Play.
  • Telltale Games is making a comeback. The developer of the popular Tales from the Borderlands, The Walking Dead adventure games, and more managed to find its way back to life after going under last year. It has a website and a statement that new and old games were returning to its library.
  • CamScanner, the popular document scanner app, had a rough week. It was removed from Google Play due to malware code from June and July 2019 updates. It came back to Google Play a short time later with the code removed. CamScanner blames one of the ad provider APIs and plans to file a lawsuit with the provider. It's back on the Play Store and malware-free.
  • Apple Music's beta channel has some good stuff coming. Included is Chromecast support. We're not sure how Apple Music made it this long without Chromecast support considering how tens of millions of people own one, but it's a problem Apple seems intent on solving soon. Hit the link for more details.

Men in Black: Global Invasion

Price: Free to play

Men in Black: Global Invasion is a new free to play game in the Men in Black universe. It's an AR game similar to games like Harry Potter: Wizards Unite or Pokemon Go. Players create a character, roam around the real world, collect stuff, and collect aliens. There are 40 aliens to collect, various weapons to equip, and more. Like more AR games, it's a little bare because it's so new. However, we expect the game to grow and develop over the coming months and years.

Space Weather Reporter

Price: Free

Space Weather Reporter is, well, a weather app for space. It's mostly useless to us here on Earth, but it's a neat little info tool for those who are interested in the day to day weather patterns of space. You can get notifications for things like solar flairs, geomagnetic storms, and other interstellar phenomena. The UI is simple enough, although the text can feel a bit cramped at times. The information is sourced from DONKI for those who want to know.

Rush Wars

Price: Free to play

Rush Wars is the latest game from Supercell, developers of Clash Royale and Clash of Clans. It's another strategy game, but one that promises faster game play, less waiting, and more action. Players build up bases with gold mines and protect them from oncoming onslaughts. The game is in closed beta so I didn't personally get to try it out. However, it looks like it should be another hit from Supercell. The beta is available in Finland, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. If you live there, hit the button and try it out!

Vectorify da home

Price: Free

Vectorify da home is a new wallpaper app. It has a collection of over 400 wallpapers and each one uses simple, vector-style graphics. Each image is customizable. You can choose things like the background and foreground colors along with some other minor changes. The app is also completely free, open source, and actually fun to use. This is one of the more unique wallpaper apps we've seen since Tapet. Plus, with the background and foreground color picker, every wallpaper can be AMOLED friendly if you want it to be. We really like this one.

Pokemon Masters

Price: Free to play

The highly anticipated Pokemon Masters is now out for Android. Players form three-person teams with their favorite trainers and their Pokemon. They then battle it out against opponents. There is also online PvP as well as co-op play. Battles are fairly standard fair for a Pokemon game. You select moves and take advantages of weaknesses where you can. It's a free to play game so it doesn't quite feel like a premium Pokemon game, but so far most people seem to like it. For those interested, we already have guides for evolutions, re-rolls, and an update hub with everything you need to know. There is also a tips and tricks page if you want to see it!
