Normal folks can soon buy the not-normal HTC Exodus 1 with normal money

Up until now, only those with enough cryptocurrency could buy the HTC Exodus 1. According to The Verge, you'll soon be able to pick up HTC's blockchain smartphone with traditional money.

Starting in March, the Exodus 1 will be available for $699. That money gets you a phone with a 6-inch IPS display with 2,880 x 1,440 resolution, dual rear 12- and 16-megapixel cameras, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 3,500mAh battery.

More importantly, $699 gets you a smartphone that focuses on blockchain technology. To that end, HTC announced new blockchain features for the Exodus 1 that include 20 new apps.

The new decentralized apps are known as "Dapps" and are designed to make use of the Exodus 1's hardware. One such Dapp is Numbers, which tracks your walking, sleeping, and driving data, among other types of data. You can then sell the data to third parties for cryptocurrency.

The idea is for Numbers to compensate users for their personal data and to force companies to be more transparent about how they use that data. Also, Numbers can supposedly lower car or health insurance rates if there's enough "positive" data about their walking and driving habits. To make that happen, the team behind Numbers is currently in talks with a few insurance companies.

In addition to the new Dapps, HTC also announced that it partnered with Opera. When you open the Opera web browser on the Exodus 1, you'll be able to make micro-payments in Ether on websites that support the payment model.

The new Dapps are available today through a decentralized app store. You can pick up the Exodus 1 at the link below.
