It’s not just you: Some Google Home and Chromecasts are down

Google Home

  • Google admitted today that there are issues with Google Chromecasts and Google Home smart speakers.
  • Users can't cast apps to Chromecasts and Google Home speakers won't respond to voice commands.
  • Google did not give any explanation for the issues, but is working on fixes.

Today, users across the globe found that both Google Home smart speakers and Google Chromecast streamers weren't working properly. Usually, these kinds of issues are user-specific, but not this time. This time, it actually is Google!

The official "Made by Google" Twitter account posted the following tweet in response to one of the many complaints about faulty Chromecasts and Home hardware:

Google also independently confirmed with TechCrunch that the problem is real, but didn't offer any kind of explanation as to why.

The problem Chromecast users face is a pretty big one: they are unable to cast media. The Chromecast icon is missing from specific apps, and users are also unable to cast from the Google Home app.

Google Home hardware, meanwhile, faces a similarly devastating problem: voice commands don't work. One user tweeted that they even tried to factory reset their Google Home to no avail:

Hopefully, Google delivers a fix for these problems soon, as these issues obviously render Home and Chromecast hardware useless.

Are you facing either of these problems? Let us know the details in the comments!
