Today we are taking a look at what could be the nerdiest third-party launchers we have seen come to the Google Play Store. Linux fanboys rejoice; this launcher pretty much turns your smartphone's home screen into a Linux command line interface.
What does this mean? Those who don't understand what's going on here probably shouldn't download the launcher, but the general concept is that all functions are done manually. Need to uninstall an app? You will need to write the command "uninstall [app]". Want to send a text? Use "sms [contact][text]". There are plenty of commands for everything you may want to do with your phone.
Why would you want to do this instead of using that simple, intuitive, user-friendly launcher your phone comes with? We used it for a bit and found everything was a bit complicated, even for those of us with some experience in CLI. Opening an app was simple, but going into more complex functions like calling or sending a text had a bit of a learning curve.
It's a neat way to practice your Linux commands and geek out, but we don't think the regular consumer will ever get it. And even those with some Linux experience will have to get used to it. It might also be nice to take advantage of the fact that very few people could figure out how to do anything on your phone. It could be another layer of privacy/security, right?
