Oppo Reno 2 5G leaks: Could this be the Reno 10X Zoom successor?

Oppo launched three phones in its Reno 2 series just last month. Called the Reno 2, Reno 2F and Reno 2Z, none of the phones house a top-of-the-line Snapdragon processor. While they offer big upgrades over the original Reno, the lack a flagship SoC and periscope camera means they're not true successors to the Oppo Reno 10X Zoom Edition. This could change soon with the appearance of the Reno 2 5G.

The rumored Oppo Reno 2 5G has been sighted on Chinese certification website TENAA. While the listing does not reveal much in terms of the specifications, the images clearly show a vertically aligned camera setup on the back. As you can see in the image below, the third sensor in the stack is the prominent square periscope lens, similar to the one seen on the Reno 10X Zoom Edition and the Huawei P30 Pro.

While the Reno 2 does feature 20x digital zoom, it's not a hybrid digital-optical zoom like the Reno 10X Zoom. With the addition of the periscope camera, the Reno 2 5G could very well deliver high-quality hybrid zoom.

Given that the Reno 10X Zoom Edition featured a triple camera setup, we're unsure what the fourth camera on this upcoming variant does. It's possible this is a portrait camera as seen on the current Reno 2 line-up.

The TENAA listing of the Reno 2 5G further confirms a 6.6-inch display, a tad larger than the rest of the Reno 2 devices. The battery capacity stands at 3,930mAh and the phone is listed with support for 5G.

It's also noteworthy that Oppo VP, Brian Shen recently teased a new Reno device with a 90Hz display and Super VOOC charging. However he did say this isn't the Reno 2, so it could be a new device in the series altogether.

Anyhow, the TENAA listing of the Reno 2 5G suggests a launch is near. We'll just have to wait and watch what Oppo has in store.
