The big Apple news this week centers on a concept design that supposedly shows what a prototype of a potential 2020 iPhone could look like. In the image above, you can see the alleged prototype has no notch with all the Face ID sensors retained in the top bezel.

Elsewhere, we've got news about the production country of the new Mac Pro, the latest releases of iOS 13.1 and iPadOS 13.1, some tests done to the iPhone 11 series and the Apple Watch Series 5, and much more!

See the Apple news roundup below for all the latest.

The top Apple news stories of the past week:

  • 2020 iPhone prototype design leaks, looks awesome: In the photo above, you can see a concept image based on a leaked prototype design of a 2020 iPhone, courtesy of leaker/concept designer Ben Geskin. Supposedly, a 2020 iPhone could have no notch but still retain all the normal front-facing hardware in the top bezel of the device. Looks great to us!
  • The iPhone 11 Pro Max display is really good: DisplayMate released its review of the iPhone 11 Pro Max display and, predictably, it's really good. The display actually earned the site's highest grade of an A+. It should be noted that Samsung makes iPhone displays.
  • iOS 13.1 and iPadOS 13.1 landed this week: The latest version of the operating systems powering iPhones and iPads landed this week. iOS 13.1 brings some new AirDrop features and iPadOS 13.1 brings a dark mode and multitasking features. Both also get the usual bug fixes and improvements.
  • Apple Watch Series 5 teardown reveals Series 4: According to the iFixit teardown of the new Apple Watch Series 5, it is essentially the same hardware present in the Series 4. This begs the question: why bother upgrading?
  • Checkm8 jailbreak exploit is allegedly "unpatchable": A new jailbreak process known as Checkm8 could allow a user to unlock any iPhone from the 4S through the iPhone X. The creator claims this method cannot be fixed by Apple, although that sounds dubious.
  • The new Mac Pro will be made in the US after all: Although President Trump said he wouldn't budge when it came to import tariffs on Chinese-made goods, it appears Apple still got what it asked for. Because of this, the Mac Pro will once again be made in the United States, not overseas.
  • You might be able to see Apple TV Plus films in theatres: Apple has a slate of movies planned for its exclusive Apple TV Plus service. However, to keep those movies in consideration for awards such as the Oscars, Apple could launch them in theatres first before moving them to the TV service.
