The U.S. Huawei Mate 10 Pro is finally receiving Android Pie

If you're rocking one of 2017's best smartphones, the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, you might want to check to see if you have any updates to install. As spotted by Android Police, the U.S. variant of the handset is finally getting a taste of Android Pie.

Huawei first started rolling out EMUI 9.0 based on Android pie to the global versions of the Mate 10 series back in early January. While the update file comes in at roughly 4GB in size, the new firmware does introduce several significant improvements.

First, Huawei claims that EMUI 9.0 uses AI to increase the system response speed by 25.8 percent and shortens app startup by 102ms. Second, the new firmware introduces GPU Turbo 2.0, the company's game optimization engine. Huawei states that the software lowers touch delays by 36 percent and decreases hot spots caused by heavy usage.

You won't find Google's Digital Wellbeing and Google Lens in this update though. Huawei has replaced both with its own software called Digital Balance and HiVision respectively.

After a week of testing the Huawei Mate 10 Pro with Android Pie, Android Police reports that the smartphone seems to handle the new firmware just fine. The publication does note that the notification animation appears slightly "janky," but everything else is working smoothly.

If you haven't seen the update pop up on your phone yet, manually checking for the new firmware in the settings menu should start the download.
