It seems like the tablet industry is in danger of shrinking even more thanks to the move towards foldable phones. But that hasn't stopped Samsung from offering the 2019 Galaxy Tab A 8.0.
The tablet, spotted on the Samsung Thailand website by XDA-Developers, isn't going to blow you away when you look at its feature-set. It's packing an 8-inch 1,920 x 1,200 TFT display, a budget-focused Exynos 7904 chipset, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of expandable storage.
Rounding out the spec sheet is an 8MP rear camera, 5MP selfie shooter, a 4,200mAh battery, cellular connectivity, and Android Pie (will it get Android Q though?). Oddly enough, there doesn't appear to be a fingerprint scanner here, while XDA notes that face unlock seems to be missing too. It's a pity, as even basic face unlock would be more convenient than having to enter a PIN each time.
Samsung has also brought the S-Pen to the Galaxy Tab A device, clearly positioning this as a budget slate for students and productivity in general. And the company says the S-Pen has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance — a weird thing to brag about when the device itself seems to lack a significant IP rating.
Pricing details aren't known just yet, but the specs clearly suggest that we're looking at a budget purchase. So if you're looking to get a cheap tablet for your kids (or yourself), you should keep an eye on this one.
