The foldable phone war finally kicked off in earnest in 2019, as Huawei and Samsung revealed their takes on the category. Xiaomi also demoed a foldable device earlier this year, and it's now published another video showing the phone in action.
The company posted a video on Weibo, showing the foldable phone going from a tablet to phone form factor. And the clip also shows the user swiping to go back, suggesting that MIUI gestures will indeed be available on the device.
Xiaomi's clip also suggests that the foldable phone doesn't support a portrait home screen when in tablet mode. It's still early days for the software though, and the firm's Mi Pad series offers a portrait home screen, so hopefully this isn't an issue in the final device.
There's not much else to glean from the video clip, but I still can't help but feel that the phone form factor looks pretty squat. Then again, this could be due to the fact that I've grown accustomed to tall screens in the past three years.
Xiaomi hasn't shed light on availability and pricing details but, if its flagship and 5G pricing is any indication, then there's a good chance the foldable phone will undercut the competition.
