Android tablets aren't the most popular devices in the world. Many developers are making games that play in portrait mode and make more sense on phones. However, there are some games that are just plain better on tablets. Here are the best Android tablet games!

Beamdog is a developer on Google Play. They specialize in porting old PC games to Android. Beamdog currently have four titles out right now. They are Baldur's Gate I and II, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment EE. All four games are massive RPGs that include dozens of hours of game play each. The controls are complex, but thankfully you have a tablet. That helps spread the controls out. They're $9.99, but these four titles have one of the best content to price ratios out there. They're excellent tablet games.

Bridge Constructor Portal is one of the newer Android games. It works perfectly well on phones. However, the larger size of the tablet screen makes pinpoint movement easier for this game. It features a bunch of levels, elements of both Portal and Bridge Constructor games, and Google Play Games support. It's plays a little hard into the fan service of the Portal universe. However, it's still a rock solid puzzle game. It's also a pay-once game with no additional in-app purchases or advertisements.

Crashlands is an adventure game with a lot of other elements. You'll have to level up your character like an RPG, craft and build things, engage in combat with bad guys, and a lot more. It's a huge game with tons to do. There is also a story line involving an intergalactic trucker and a bad guy trying to destroy the world. It's a ton of fun, has full-fledged cloud saving and there's cross-platform support. It was our pick for the best game released in 2016 for a reason. It's one of the better tablet games as well.

Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions is the latest game in the Geometry Wars series and this one is pretty intense. Instead of a 2D plane where you make colors explode like fireworks, you'll be operating on a 3D plane for most of this game. The graphics are sharp, colorful, and they look beautiful on tablet screens. The game includes over 100 levels, 12 battle modes, 15 3D grids, companion drones, and more. It's a bit expensive, but there are no in-app purchases.

The larger touch screens of tablets make controls much easier as you have more space and larger buttons. Each game easily provides dozens of hours of game play which makes them easily worth the money. Bully is another Rockstar classic that has a lot of the same mechanics, but in a wildly different setting. There are five total Grand Theft Auto games available on Android. They all make excellent tablet games as well.

Minecraft

Minecraft dropped the Pocket Edition moniker in 2017. It's not the full-fledged version of the game. That means it's playable with Xbox One and PC versions of the game as well. We recommend this one for tablets because of all of the controls. There is a ton to do in Minecraft, including explore, craft, build, and do other stuff. Microsoft sells servers at a monthly cost in case you don't want to make your own. Additionally, the mobile version is cheaper than the console or PC versions. In any case, it's one of the excellent Android tablet games.

Pandemic: The Board Game

Pandemic is one of the best board games. It's also one of the better tablet games out there. You play as members of the CDC. Your job is to travel the world to stop infections and battle diseases. The game ends if you fail. It can be played with up to four people on the same device. The game features seven role cards, three difficulty settings, a full rulebook, and more. There is also DLC that you can get for a nominal fee. The prices seem to fluctuate a bit, but this one is definitely worth it.

realMyst and Riven

realMyst is a port of the popular PC game Myst from the early 1990's. The remaster has all of the features, content, and mechanics of the original game. Like before, your job is to explore the game's world, solve puzzles, and put together the pieces of what's going on. It also comes with improved graphics, a remastered soundtrack, and an enhanced hints system. The game had some early release bugs, but it has since conquered them. There are also no in-app purchases to get in your way. Riven is simply the sequel to realMyst. They're both excellent Android tablet games.

République is a room-escape puzzle game. Your goal is to play as a hacker who helps a girl escape her captors. It's an entertaining stealth game with pretty decent graphics and an in-depth, engaging storyline to top things off. You'll also be able to find and make various tools to help you along the way. It's an episodic adventure so you'll have to buy the final four episodes separately as in-app purchases, but the first episode is only a couple of bucks. About the only downside is that the game is finished and may still be buggy for some.

Riptide GP: Renegade is probably the best racing game out right now. The story starts with a racer who gets banned from the GP circuit for breaking the rules. You play as that person as you race to regain your glory. The game comes with some of the better graphics that you'll see. There is also a campaign, online multiplayer, and various race types that you can play with. It also comes with support for split-screen multiplayer, hardware controller support, and more. It's one of the tablet games worth a look.

Rollercoaster Tycoon Classic

You can also pick up the game's DLC as in-app purchases if you so choose. It's one of the newer tablet games, but it's already one of the best.

Most of them play perfectly fine on a phone, but having a tablet really helps the experience shine. The prices vary from freemium to over $20, so there is a little something there no matter what you're into. Their latest big release was Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition, an excellent addition to your tablet games lineup.

You can find Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead seasons one through three along with Michonne, Tales From the Borderlands, The Wolf Among Us, Batman, and Minecraft: Story Mode. Each game remains faithful to its IP and they all provide fantastic audio and visual experiences with decent graphics, top-notch voice acting, and plenty of content. Each game is an episodic adventure so you'll have to buy the games piece by piece, but otherwise they're really good.

This War of Mine

This War of Mine was one of the undisputed champions of 2015. It's a horror-survival game where you must survive a war that's happening around you. This causes you to make some pretty brutal decisions when it comes to who gets to live and who gets to die. You can also craft various items, manage your shelter, and you get a totally randomized cast of characters every time you start. It's a dark game, but it's also really good. The only downside is that it's one of the more expensive tablet games.

XCOM: Enemy Within

XCOM: Enemy Within may be fairly expensive at $9.99 but few who have purchased the game regret the price tag. It's a deep, immersive strategy game where you must play a game of proverbial chess with the bad guys and take them out. You play as the humans defending the world against an alien invasion. You must upgrade your weapons and equipment, recruit troops, and there is even multiplayer modes for gamers to enjoy. It's based on the 2012 title XCOM: Enemy Unknown except with more content, a longer story, and more upgrades. It's definitely not for the faint of heart and is truly one of the best "console level" gaming experiences on Android.
