Almighty Volume Keys

Almighty Volume Keys is a customization app for your hardware volume rocker. It has a simple premise. The app lets you remap the volume buttons to perform other tasks. Some of your options include music controls, flashlight controls, auto-rotation toggle, Bluetooth toggle, quick mute, and there is also Tasker integration for you hardcore folks out there. The UI is easy enough to use and the app also boasts no ads, no unnecessary permissions, and a fairly simple set up process. The premium version is also relatively cheap.
Energy Ring (two apps)
Price: Free / Up to $26.99
IJP, the developers of the popular Energy Ring apps for Samsung devices, recently released new version for the Galaxy S20 series phones as well as a general purpose variant for the Galaxy A series, Galaxy Z Flip, and even the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. The Energy Ring apps let you turn your punch hole display into a battery meter. You can customize the thickness, colors, and a few other small things. It's great to see this app series spread beyond just Samsung.
Facebook Gaming
Price: Free
Facebook Gaming is Facebook's official competitor for apps like YouTube and Twitch. It works a lot like YouTube Gaming used to work. The app is a portal to Facebook's video section, but cancels out everything except gaming. Facebook Gaming serves two purposes. It's a portal for viewers to find streamers and gaming videos, follow creators, and engage with content. You can also use the app to live stream your game play. The app has a few bugs here and there, but it seems to generally work okay.
My App Earnings
Price: Free
My App Earnings is a niche app for app and game developers. It's basically a console for developers to see their earnings. The app supports data from Google Play's Developer Console as well as AdMob and AdSense APIs. You basically log in with all of your credentials and the app fills up with data for quick and easy reference. You can find revenue by product, from various sources, by country, and even daily revenue. Plus, you get a widget for your home screen to check out as well. This has no use for non-developers, but it's a neat tool with developers. It's currently in beta so expect some bugs.
One Shade
Price: Free / Up to $6.49
One Shade is an Android customization app. It lets you customize the notification shade area of your device. You get a bunch of fun, basic stuff like full color customization, various notification controls, and even a custom background picture. However, the app also includes some more interesting features like notification card themes, a customizable quick settings panel, and support for media seek bars in notifications. People reported a few bugs, but it seems to work well in general.
Plexamp
Price: Free
Plexamp is the latest app from Plex. This one is actually a music player. It works like most Android music players except it links up with your Plex Media Server (on your computer) and streams your own music to you. There are a ton of advantages to this method, including the ability to control your music quality way more than most streaming apps. In any case, the UI isn't flashy, but it's clean and functional with just the right amount of little touches to make it feel good. It's in beta right now and only available to Plex Pass users at this time.
Removed for Reddit
Price: Free
Remoived for Reddit is an excellent tool for frequent Reddit users. The app lets you uncover what a removed comment originally said. The process is easy enough. You find a removed comment, share it directly with this app, and the app shows you what the comment originally said. It uses pushshift.io for all of the heavy lifting. The app itself is entirely free with no ads or in-app purchases. It's also open source if you care about such things. It worked perfectly in our testing. However, if pushshift.io is having issues, this app also has issues, so that's something to watch out for.
Snap Search
Price: Free / $2.99 per month / $19.99 per year
Snap Search is a simple browser style app with a focus on privacy and security. It's mostly usable for making quick web searches and lightly browsing the web. It's not a full browser like Chrome or Firefox. However, you can open it, search for what you want, click the links, and browse. Some of the app's features include an ad-blocker, a tracker blocker, and you can download web pages for offline use. There is also an integrated VPN service that costs $2.99 per month or $19.99 per year if you choose to use it.
Vivaldi Browser
Price: Free
Vivaldi Browser was in beta for months and saw its first official release in April 2020. It actually swings with the bigger browsers. There is a desktop variant and the app supports syncing between the desktop and mobile platforms. Additionally, you get an ad blocker, privacy browsing, an integrated notepad, an integrated screenshot button, and more. The sync is fully encrypted, which we appreciate, and you get a dark mode as well. This one swings feature for features with Firefox and Chrome and it's nice to see a fresh competitor in the mix.
Volume Styles
Price: Free / Up to $7.49
Volume Styles is another Android customization app. This one lets you customize your software volume bars. Generally, you hit the volume rocker and see a volume based on what's on your phone. This app takes over that functionality and lets you customize it. Some of the features includes various themes, the ability to control basically any volume on your phone all at once (if you want), and even a brightness slider for your screen. Most of its critics either hate paying for apps or don't understand the app permissions, since this app takes control of your volume keys. In terms of functionality, it works well.
