Pokémon Masters announced: Here’s everything you need to know!

This Summer, a new kind of Pokémon game will hit Android and iOS devices around the world. Pokémon Masters takes a unique approach to the series, with trainers and Pokémon working together to prove they are the true champions in a tournament on the island of Pasio. Iconic trainers and their Pokémon from all generations make an appearance.

Collecting trainers instead of Pokémon themselves is quite a departure for the series, but so far it looks like a compelling mobile experience. What is Pokémon Masters?

Pokémon Masters is a single player mobile game from Japanese developer DeNA. It focuses primarily on Pokémon trainers and their relationship with a single Pokémon, rather than collecting and leveling a variety of Pokémon.

When is the Pokémon Masters release date?

A Pokémon Masters release date hasn't been announced yet, but it is coming in Summer 2019. Stay tuned for more details soon.

Where does Pokémon Masters take place?

Pokémon Masters takes place on the artificial island of Pasio, somewhere in the Pokémon universe. Trainers and their favorite Pokémon from across the world have gathered on the island for the Pokémon Masters League.

What do you do in Pokémon Masters?

Unlike other Pokémon games, Pokémon Masters is all about meeting and befriending other trainers. Each trainer has a single Pokémon, and you'll need to form a team of three trainers and their Pokémon to battle your way to the top of the Pokémon Masters League.

Is Pokémon Masters free-to-play?

Pokémon Masters is free-to-start, meaning that part (or all) of the game will be free, but some in-app-purchases may speed up progress.

What is combat like in Pokémon Masters?

Combat is real-time in Pokémon Masters. Your team of three Pokémon trainers and their Pokémon face off against another team of three controlled by a computer opponent. Trainers can also get in on the action by using abilities that buff or heal their Pokémon.

Which trainers are in Pokémon Masters?

Pokémon trainers from Red and Blue to Sun and Moon can be found in Pokémon Masters, including Brock, Misty, Cynthia, Flannery, Thorton, and Korrina. Even Red and Blue themselves make an appearance.

Does Pokémon Masters have online multiplayer?

It's still early days, but so far we haven't seen any sign of an online mode for battling friends. We'll know for sure soon.

Is Pokémon Masters linked to Pokémon Go?

Not that we've seen so far. DeNA's new game appears to be its own beast (or should we say pocket monster) that may not have any link with Niantic's hit AR game.
