ActionDash 3.0 is here to take Digital Wellbeing’s lunch and then some

Today, Action Launcher developer Chris Lacy announced ActionDash 3.0. Arguably the best third-party alternative to Digital Wellbeing, ActionDash 3.0 looks to one-up Google's offering with a host of new features.

First up is focus mode. Accessible in the ActionDash 3.0 app or a quick settings tile, focus mode prevents the use of apps you find distracting. You select these apps from ActionDash's settings, then turn focus mode on to block app usage.

When you try to use a distracting app, focus mode presents you with a full-screen message and a GIF from the original The Matrix movie. Focus mode is only available for devices running Android 9 Pie or Android Q.

Next up are app usage limits, which let you set daily limits on a per-app basis. Once you reach your limit, a full-screen message shows up with a GIF from The Simpsons. From the full-screen message, you can go into ActionDash's settings and play around with the daily limits. You can also not use the feature altogether.

ActionDash 3.0 also features Usage Assistant. The feature acts as an ever-present notification and provides live device usage statistics. For example, Usage Assistant shows you how many times you've unlocked your device, how long it's been since you last used your device, and how long you're currently using your device for.

Usage Assistant also provides contextual statistics. For example, it shows you how long you've been using the currently-open app. It also shows how much time you have left until you hit your daily app usage limit, if one is enabled.

Finally, ActionDash 3.0 features enhanced theme support. In addition to a new true-black dark theme, the app supports Android Q's dark theme system toggle. ActionDash also opens up the dark grey theme to Plus and non-Plus users.
