First Samsung phone with in-display fingerprint sensor could get gradient color, 128GB storage

  • Details have emerged about the rumored Samsung Galaxy P30.
  • As well as the leaked in-display fingerprint sensor, the phone could come with either 64GB or 128GB storage.
  • The phone could also be the latest Samsung device to get gradient color options.

The Samsung Galaxy P30 is said to be the Korean firm's first phone with an in-display fingerprint sensor. And it looks like more potential details have emerged, courtesy of SamMobile.

According to the outlet, the Galaxy P30 will be available with either 64GB or 128GB of storage. This is in line with the recently unveiled Galaxy A7. The publication also expects the phone to have gradient color schemes with blue, pink, black, and red as the base colors.

The device will have the model number SM-G6200 and Samsung could also release a Plus version, according to the outlet. While the phone is currently known as the Galaxy P30, it's believed that this may not be its final name.

What else to know about new phone?

The website also suggests that the upcoming phone could be equipped with an LCD screen and optical-based in-display fingerprint sensor. This sounds a little weird, however, as traditional optical in-display sensors only work with OLED screens. Meanwhile, previous rumors suggest that the Galaxy S10 will feature an in-display sensor that uses ultrasonic technology instead of optical tech.

Other rumors have suggested the Galaxy P30 will be an "Original Design Manufacturer" phone specifically for China. SamMobile didn't confirm this, but says it expects the phone to launch in China first, probably by the end of the year.

Editor's Pick

Not much is known about the phone's camera set-up and the report doesn't mention if Samsung will equip it with three lenses (or more?) like in its other mid-range options.

Even if it doesn't get a triple camera, the addition of an in-display fingerprint sensor and a trendy gradient color scheme means the phone will likely be competitive in the mid-range. Assuming the phone gets a wide release, those looking for a non-flagship Samsung device in the near future may be spoilt for choice.
