Android gaming is getting bigger and better every month it seems and there is always a slew of new titles coming to Google Play. Whether you're a casual gamer or you want something with a bit more meat on its bones, there's usually a game coming out to suit everyone's taste. Some months are better than others, but there is usually at least one great new game on mobile every month. Let's take a look at the best new Android games from the last month! Dandara is an action platformer game. You play in a near-dystopian future. The goal is to bring balance to a broken world. The game play is actually quite nice. It's a 2D side-scroller with platformer, shooter, and puzzle mechanics. It also has boss fights, hidden items and upgrades, tons of exploration, and more. Dandara is probably a tiny bit more expensive than we'd like to see a premium mobile game. However, nobody who's paid the price for it has complained about the price. This is also the same developer that did Kathy Rain, a popular murder-mystery game from 2017.
DISSIDIA Final Fantasy Opera Omnia is proof that Square Enix hates people who have to type for a living. Outside of its long name, it's actually a somewhat decent mobile RPG. It features character collection from various DISSIDIA and other Final Fantasy games. Additionally, it features turn by turn combat with a similar mechanic to the Bravely Default series on 3DS. There are even social elements. It's a freemium game with the usual pitfalls. However, this should provide a good time for a while.
Earth Wars is a port of the Nintendo Switch game of the same name. It's a hack-and-slash game with some interesting graphics and simple mechanics. The narrative includes an alien invasion with a daring counterstrike by a beleaguered human race. It's one of a few rare hack-and-slash games that are actually pretty good. Plus, it has no in-app purchases or freemium elements to speak of. It does run for $4.49 and that's a fairly reasonable price. It's not the best game ever, but it's really good for its genre.
Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition is one of the biggest mobile game releases of the year. It contains the entire story and some of the extra stuff of the console version of Final Fantasy XV. The graphics, mechanics, and style are scaled back a little bit. However, that's so it works on smartphones. Otherwise, the game includes the original voiceovers, cut scenes, and most of the charm of the console version. It's not perfect, but it's far above average. It's an episodic game. That means you can buy each chapter separately as you play. Alternatively, you can just fork out $19.99 for the full game and not worry about it. The first chapter is free.
Flippy is a minimal arcade runner. You run along a path fraught with danger. Your goal is to overtake other runners, avoid obstacles, and more. The game also features missions, simple mechanics, simple graphics, and bright colors. It's definitely not the deepest game ever. However, it's a solid way to kill a few minutes from time to time. Additionally, it's a pay-once game at $2.99. That's rare for arcade runners on mobile.

Game Dev Tycoon is a port from the PC version. You start a game studio in the 1980's. The goal is to release a string of hit games and make tons of money. It also features a level progression system, simple mechanics, strategy-sim elements, tons of unlockable stuff, and more. The mobile version is also slightly different than the PC version with a slightly altered story line, more game topics, and a harder hard mode. It's honestly pretty good. It's also a pay-once game with no in-app purchases or ads.
Hockey Nations 18 is sort of a promotional game for the Winter Olympics. It features various teams from all around the world. Additionally, it comes with various game modes, okay graphics, and relatively simple mechanics. It's far from perfect. However, hockey games on mobile are fairly rare. Most of them are just sim games with a hockey theme. This one at least lets you play a little bit. It's free to download. The full game runs for about $3.99. It also features online multiplayer components.
Onmyoji is a mobile strategy RPG. You collect characters like most games in this genre. It then lets you face other people in online multiplayer combat. The game also features a fairly decent soundtrack, simple turn-by-turn combat mechanics, raid bosses, and even a story line to play through. This one won't win any awards. However, it's a good time killer for a while. Of course, it's a freemium game if you haven't already ascertained that from its character collection system. In any case, it's not amazing, but it's certainly not bad either.
Capcom's Street Fighter IV Champion Edition is one of the more hyped mobile releases this year. Unfortunately, Capcom still has some work to do. The game features 32 characters, actual fighting game mechanics, local multiplayer, and partial controller support. However, the game also suffers from frame rate issues, bugs, and it could use better controller support. Capcom has the bones of what could probably be a top three fighting game on mobile. They just need to fix the issues first. In any case, it's a free download if you want to try it yourself.
The X-Files: Deep State is a somewhat decent freemium game. It features hidden object and puzzle mechanics along with the sci-fi theme that adorns the TV series. The game also has leaderboards, achievements, and a moral decision making mechanic. On the other side, the most expensive in-app purchases is $350 for some reason and it is a freemium game at heart. Like most freemium games, this one will be popular, but it won't go down as one of the best games in history or anything. X-Files fans will likely enjoy this one, even if it's just for a little while.
