Back in May, we told you that LG and GE were teaming up with Google to allow Assistant to talk to its appliances. Now, LG is moving forward and rolling that functionality out. After a quick setup in the LG SmartThinQ app, you'll be able to use Assistant to control any of LG's almost 90 connected appliances. The functionality should work with Google Home or Google Assistant on Android or iOS.
LG has a pretty wide selection of connected appliances. If you happen to have its connected washer and dryer, you can ask assistant how long is left on the cycle or if the lint trap needs dumped. Think about how easy it'll be to preheat the oven when you're on the way home from work. Or, to see if you forgot to turn it off when you're out for some post-dinner ice cream with the family.
There's no revolutionary expansion of features due to this integration. But, it is taking one step closer to making our lives just a little bit more convenient. LG says that the SmartThinQ app will learn about your habits the more you use it. It will, for example, alert you when you need to replace the filter for your refrigerator or air purifier.

We reported several weeks ago that LG will be teaming up with Google to offer a free Home with the purchase of an LG WiFi-enabled appliance. It looks like that promotion will kick off October 8 and run through October 25. Unfortunately, you can only get one free Google Home per household and it's a US-only promotion.
