Oxygen OS 4.1.7 for the OnePlus 3 and 3T brings bug fixes and security patches in tow

Even though OnePlus announced that Android Oreo will be the OnePlus 3/3T's last major Android update, that does not mean all updates will stop there. The company promised to continually release security patch updates, and it is starting to fulfill that promise with Oxygen OS 4.1.7.

First and foremost, the update brings the OnePlus 3/3T to the August security patch level, which actually puts the two phones slightly ahead of the OnePlus 5 when it comes to the security patch level – the OnePlus 5 is on the July 2017 patch. Oxygen OS 4.1.7 also makes navigating the interface a snappier endeavor, with some battery optimizations thrown into the mix for good measure.

Bug fixes are also in tow, with OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei saying that the update includes touch latency improvements, one of the more common issues with the OnePlus 3/3T. The update also fixes an issue with Oxygen OS' App Locker, which shields applications with a PIN code or password before accessing them, along with an exploit that bypasses the App Locker altogether.

Other fixes include calls no longer accidentally routed to the speaker by some third-party apps and videos no longer having sound channel errors. Interestingly, Oxygen OS 4.1.7 removes Hangouts from your OnePlus 3/3T if you have never updated it. If you want to keep the app around, just make sure to update it prior to installing the update.

The continued support is encouraging for OnePlus 3/3T owners, particularly those who were burned by the OnePlus 2 once the OnePlus 3 rolled into town. OxygenOS 4.1.7 is rolling out now and should hit your device over the next few days.
