Google Calendar spam issue will get a fix, but you’ll need workaround for now

Don't you just hate that Google Calendar spam issue in which unwanted events appear on your pages? Well, Google has acknowledged the problem and promised a fix — but there's no set timeline for when that fix will come.

In other words, we don't have a date for the Google Calendar spam fix that you can mark on your calendar. Zing.

Moving on, the spam issue is a truly annoying problem which stems from default settings in both Gmail and Google Calendar. Because of these settings, a spammer can send you an event invite and it will automatically get added to your calendar — even if that email message itself gets sent to your spam folder.

The result looks something like this:

Google's acknowledgment of the problem is typically very brief, first appearing on an official support forum (in which the thread is locked so no one can post angry comments). Google says it is "working diligently to resolve this issue" and will post updates "as they become available." In the meantime, Google requests that users report any spam events they receive by following these instructions.

Luckily, there is a workaround for this issue that involves you changing a few default settings around on both your desktop and mobile devices. We have instructions for how to do that, just click the button below to read them!
