Specs for the rumored Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact may have leaked

The Sony Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra.

A handful of specs for the rumored Sony Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact may have leaked. The rumor arrives from Swedish Android website Swedroid (via Xperia Blog) only days before the handsets are expected to be unveiled.

The handsets are both anticipated to sport a Snapdragon 845 SoC, have 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage space. The XZ2 display is set to come in at 5.7-inches, while the XZ2 Compact would be 5-inches (as previously speculated), and both are expected to have FHD+, 18:9 screens and Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

Rear mounted fingerprint scanners are also tipped for the devices, but no headphone jack. Camera configurations, meanwhile, weren't discussed.

We did learn some potential price and availability information, however. The XZ2 is speculated to cost SEK 7,990 (around $985), while the Xperia XZ2 Compact could cost SEK 5,990 (~$740). Aside from being rumors, bear in mind that these prices are also unlike to marry up exactly with the final US pricing. The handsets are tipped to go on sale from March 6.

It looks like Sony is continuing its tradition of a small handset with big specs for its next compact device—which is good news given that it's basically the only option available for people who want such a phone. Though its potentially 5-inch display diagonal suggests it could be larger than previous handsets in the Compact range (typically around 4.6-inches), the implementation of a "bezel-less" 18:9 panel could keep it feeling dainty. The possibility of an FHD+ display is also likely to please fans of the series.

What are your thoughts on the rumors? Let me know in the comments.
