Google Pixel 3 will get Call Screen transcript saving by end of 2018 (Update: Rolling out now)

Update, November 29, 2018 (12:23PM ET): It looks like transcript saving is rolling out to Call Screen earlier than expected. Reddit user Rjmiller416 recently pulled up a transcript from a Call Screen session with his mom.

To access transcripts, open the Google Phone app and go to Recent calls. From there, tap Call Details and then See transcript. Transcript access looks to be a server-side switch for version 26 of the Phone app, so it might take some time until you see it on your device.

Original article: Google will roll out transcript saving to Call Screen for the Pixel 3 and 3 XL later this year. Paul Dunlop, a Project Manager for Google's Call Screen, revealed this in a comment in the Google Product Forums (spotted by Piunikaweb) last week.

The Google Pixel 3's Call Screen feature, which started landing on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL last week, allows Google Assistant to answer calls on the user's behalf. Google Assistant will ask the caller why they are calling, and state that it will pass on a copy of the conversation to the receiver. It's intended to help people deal with spam calls.

Editor's Pick

Until now, this service has removed written transcripts at the end of the call. However, Dunlop said these will be saved in the Call Details part of the app in the future. This will allow users to quickly get the information they need about each call at any point after the initial call was received.

Dunlop also said there would be a public beta for the feature coming up before it reaches all Pixel 3 owners sometime later in 2018.

It should be a worthy addition to what's already shaping up to be a very useful service and I suspect it will trickle down to the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL in the future. It's still only available in the U.S. for the moment, though.
