The Nvidia Shield TV and Amazon Echo Dot.

  • Nvidia Shield TV owners can now control the Android box via Amazon Echo devices.
  • The Skill allows users to control everything from power to media playback.
  • The feature is limited to the U.S. right now, but it will be coming to more markets.

Nvidia's Shield TV is the gift that keeps on giving, receiving plenty of support since its launch back in 2015. The company isn't stopping just yet, as you can now control the Android TV box via your Amazon Echo devices.

The Nvidia Shield TV Skill is available via the Alexa app (on Android or iOS) and lets you issue voice commands to the Android box. All you need to do is open the Alexa app, visit Skills & Games, search for Nvidia Shield TV and hit the enable option, the company explained in an emailed press release.

From here, you should accept the terms and connect your Nvidia account. Finally, select the specific Shield TV and Echo device for pairing, and you should be good to go.

So what can you actually do with the Skill? Nvidia says you can use your voice to power on/off the TV box, adjust volume, launch specific apps, use media controls (pause, play, fast-forward, next), or visit specific menus (e.g. settings and home).

Editor's Pick

The company noted that it's now the only "streamer" to support both Amazon Echo and Google Home devices. That would be a pretty big feather in Nvidia's cap if the company is talking about streaming boxes or even Android boxes in general.

The new Alexa Skill is limited to the U.S. for now, but the company said it was working to bring the feature to more markets.
