Moto G5 Passes Through the FCC, Likely to be Unveiled at MWC 2017

As we inch closer to one of the hottest events globally for smartphones in the form of the Mobile World Congress 2017, we witness some more phones getting leaked on the way. This time, we get new information on the Moto G5, which has passed through the FCC.

The FCC filing does not reveal a whole lot of spec info on the Moto G5, but it does let us know that the device will be coming with a 3,000 mAh battery. This phone will also support a form of quick charging, likely called Turbo Charging based on past naming conventions. This is inferred from the adapter specifications listed, as the included charging adapter is capable of outputting 14.4W at 9V/1.6A, 12V/1.2A and 5V/1.6A. This is a nice change for the non-Plus variant, as only the Moto G4 Plus included the Turbo Charger in the box while the Moto G4 came with a puny 5V/0.55A charging brick.

The other notable point in the FCC filing is the inclusion of NFC. Previously, the main Moto G4 lineup still did not come with NFC capabilities, although the "Play" variants did sport them. Adding NFC to the base model implies that all the other variants will possess this.

Motorola does have an event planned for Mobile World Congress on 26th February 2017, where the Moto G5 and the Moto G5 Plus are likely to be unveiled. As for specs, the Moto G5 and G5 Plus are likely to stick with a 5.5″ display and switch to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC. Leaked images of the G5 Plus have been floating around, but we will have to wait on for more concrete information.
