Sony announced the Xperia 1, Xperia 10, and Xperia 10 Plus at Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona. We have some information on the pricing, release date and availability for these three phones.
The Xperia 1 is a premium model while the Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus are mid-range phones in terms of specs and price. All three phones adopt a 21:9 aspect ratio for the displays, giving them a unique look. The high-end Sony Xperia 1 features a 4K HDR OLED screen and a triple-camera arrangement on the rear. The Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus have HD+ LCD screens and dual-camera modules for portrait shooting.
Sony Xperia 1 and 10 series pricing
The Sony Xperia 1 doesn't have a price tag yet, but Sony told us how much the other two models will cost.
The smaller Xperia 10 is priced at a very reasonable $350 and the larger Xperia 10 Plus is priced at $430. These are competitive price points, to be sure. The Xperia 1 is likely to have a price tag closer to $1000. We'll let you know the exact price once it becomes available.
Sony Xperia 1 and 10 series release dates
Sony officially revealed the Sony Xperia 1, Xperia 10, and Xperia 10 Plus on February 25, 2019. Sony was extremely vague about the Xperia 1's release date. All it would commit to is "this spring." One rep suggested a May or June timeframe for the device.
Thankfully Sony is much more specific with the Sony Xperia 10 and 10 Plus. Global sales for the Xperia 10 and 10 Plus kick off on March 18.
Sony Xperia price and availability — U.S.
Sony has a strange track record when it comes to U.S. releases, often releasing them with gimped features or significantly after they launch elsewhere. The good news is we know that the Xperia 1 will be sold in the U.S. and will be offered in black and purple models. Unfortunately the when or where is currently unknown. That said, it sounds like this will be an unlocked only affair with no carrier plans announced.
The Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus will also be sold in the U.S. in your choice of black and silver. Reportedly they will launch around the same global March 18th window.
The 10 and 10 Plus will not be sold through carriers and will only be offered unlocked via online retailers, including Amazon and Best Buy. The unlocked Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus will work on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless.
Sony Xperia price and availability — Global
Unfortunately, Sony hasn't divulged any specific information about global release details or what markets it plans to offer its phones. Considering its history, it would be fairly safe to say that Japan will be among the first markets to see the device. We'll be sure to update with specific regional details as they hit.
We do know the Xperia 1 will ship with color choices of black, purple, gray, and white. The Xperia 10 family will come in black, silver, navy, pink, and gold. Exact color availability will vary from market to market.
