15 best Android games of 2019!
Alien: Blackout is an arcade horror game with the cast and, well, aliens from the popular Alien movies. It actually plays with similar mechanics as the popular Five Nights at Freddy's series. You use cameras, holographic maps, and other methods to spy on aliens as they move closer to your position. You lose the game if they catch you. The game play style perfectly fits the Alien franchise. However, the game is fairly short. Those who expect tons of content for the money may be disappointed in how short this one is. Otherwise, it's a fun little horror game.
Another Eden is a mobile RPG. However, it doesn't play like most other mobile RPGs. You don't get the usual array of special events, missions, and menu screens. Instead, it plays like a late 1990's JRPG. You move around a map, fight monsters in turn-by-turn combat, and view cut scenes and story line. There is a gacha element, but it's hidden so far behind the actual game play that it might as well not be there. The story and music are done by Chrono Trigger alumni and there are plenty of call-outs to the popular Square Enix JRPG. This game is surprisingly good.
Beat Cop is an 8-bit strategy game with some Noir elements. A police officer is framed for murder. You play as that police offer and try to clear your name. However, players must also do the job of a beat cop while solving their own framing. The story features all kinds of crooked characters, dirty humor, and alimony payments. It's a throwback to fictional 1980's police officers with the graphics to match. Those who don't enjoy retro graphics may want to steer clear of this one. You can also demo the game before shelling out the $4.99 price tag as an in-app purchase.
The Escapists 2: Pocket Breakout is the sequel to the Escapists. The game play is very much the same from the first game. You must break out of prison. In the meantime, you collect various items, craft various items, and play the role of a model prisoner for the guards. The second game features bigger prisons, more scenarios, and more content overall. The first game had more prisons, but the second game has bigger prisons so it kind of evens out. This one runs for $6.99 with no additional in-app purchases.
Langrisser is a mobile port of the popular strategy RPG from the early 1990's. It is a bit more modern, though. That means it's simpler but with freemium elements. You play through an original story line with plenty of cameos from the original game. There are also gacha elements so you can summon and create your own team of characters. There is also a single player narrative as well as online PvP. It's honestly not bad for a freemium game. The combat is deep enough to be interesting, even if it's a little bit slow as per the norm with strategy RPGs.

Linn: Path of Orchards is an action-platformer with some puzzle elements. Levels bob and weave while you jump between all of the various platforms. The goal is to get to the end of the level without falling off. It's easier said than done. The game is currently in beta. Thus, you can expect some bugs and issues with the game play as they tighten everything up. Otherwise, it's not a terrible arcade game by any stretch. We also like that it has a single price tag.
PPKP is a beat-em-up game with a retro theme. Players walk the streets of the city and pound the snot out of bad guys. In addition, players can upgrade their characters, learn new skills, and build various things. Make no mistake, this is an arcade game through and through. However, it's deep enough to be entertaining for longer than 15 minutes and we appreciate the effort by the developer. It has a surprisingly good 4.8 rating in the Play Store. We can see why that is.
Rebel Inc is the next game from Ndemic Creations, developers of the insanely popular Plague Inc. This game has a similar setup as Plague Inc, except you have to stop rebels instead of starting a worldwide plague. Players have to stabilize regions with a balanced military and a thriving economy. In addition, your decisions have impact on the outcome of the game and it definitely won't take you 15 minutes to complete. This is going to be one of the best strategy games of 2019, no doubt.
Revolve8 is the latest game from SEGA. It's a deck building style game similar to Hearthstone, but with some MOBA elements as well. You build a deck with various characters and troops. You then summon them in battle to take down your opponents. The developers did a great job of hiding the typical freemium nonsense behind the game mechanics. For instance, you basically spin stories from old fairy tales and such in the game. Thus, the resource you use to cast heroes to fight for you is called Ink. In any case, each PvP match is three minutes and it's a solid entrant into the card dueling genre.
Tony Hawk's Skate Jam is a new mobile skateboarding game with the world's most famous skateboarder. Believe it or not, it's somewhat reminiscent of the older Tony Hawk games. You skate around parks, hit big tricks, and string combos together. The soundtrack and general mechanics could use some work. However, the developer makes some pretty decent extreme sports games, so we imagine this will get much better with a few content updates. It's worth a look right now, but keep in mind that it is far from perfect.
