Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 hasn't officially started yet, but companies are already holding events in advance of the big week. Oppo is the first major player to hold a pre-MWC event, revealing its 10x zoom technology in Barcelona.
The company also unveiled triple camera hardware to go with the zoom capabilities, featuring a 48MP main camera, a 16MP ultra-wide angle shooter, and an unspecified 10x zoom telephoto camera. Oppo says this triple camera supports focal lengths from 16mm to 160mm.
Oppo originally used a prism and periscope solution for 5x zoom tech, shown off at MWC 2017. The 10x zoom solution maintains this basic setup, but restricts it to the telephoto camera. The Chinese brand says it's also added optical image stabilization to the main and telephoto cameras.
The brand confirmed that 10x zoom capabilities will appear in its next product, scheduled for a Q2 2019 reveal.
The manufacturer first showed off 10x zoom technology in China earlier this year, alongside an in-display fingerprint sensor that offers a larger readable area.
This is a developing story…
