The Google Gboard keyboard has allowed users to create their own GIFs since last September. This turned videos recorded with the smartphone camera into GIFs, but it was buried in the emoji menu. Thanks to a new update, the tool is now in a more easily accessed position and has some new features.
The GIF-maker button has been moved to the top right of the keyboard and lets you create GIFs in two formats. One enables you to take 3-second clips (in Loop Mode), while the other will speed up a one-minute GIF (Fast Forward Mode). You can then add text to these, just as before, and share them with friends.
The update was spotted by the folks at The Verge, but it appears that it's limited to iOS devices for now. Gboard started as an iOS-exclusive app before launching on Android around six months later; though this feature could be rolled out to Android in just a matter of days, it may equally be several months away. Hit us up in the comments if you spot it on your Android anytime soon.
