The Nokia 3 Oreo beta update is "right around the corner," according to HMD Global Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas. Sarvikas made the comments in a tweet published the weekend, only a few days after the launch of the Nokia 8 Oreo beta. Specific details regarding the rollout haven't yet been announced, though we know it will arrive through HMD Global's dedicated Beta Labs program. We'll keep an eye out for more in the coming days.
Sarvikas also mentioned that the Nokia 2—which currently runs Android 7.1.1—would be upgraded directly to Android 8.1 Oreo, skipping version 8.0. This, he said, was so that the Nokia 2 could take advantage of 8.1's "memory optimization features," seeing as it's a 1 GB RAM device. The update had previously been confirmed by Sarvikas in a separate tweet.
Also #Nokia2 but will go straight to 8.1 to get memory optimization features as it is a 1GB RAM device. #Nokia3 Beta Labs right around the corner.

HMD Global has taken a proactive approach to updates, both in terms of delivery times and communication. It acted quickly to roll out initial 8.0 Oreo updates and has followed up with 8.1 betas while other, bigger OEMs are still to deliver the original software to major flagships. Not bad work from a company that's only just entering its second generation of products.
