Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition might launch on Android on Feb. 9

Update #2 (1/29/18): Apple's iTunes page for Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition now shows that the game is likely to launch for that platform on Feb. 9. It stands to reason that the Android version will likely be made available worldwide on that same day.

Update #1 (11/8/17): It looks like our long wait for Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition is coming to a close. Square Enix has officially put a listing up for the game on the Google Play Store where you can pre-register to receive a notification when the game goes live and check out the description of the game. Square Enix also added a new trailer with scenes from the game which you can find attached above.

Be sure to clear some space on your phone if you plan to download it as it'll take up 5 GB of space for the base game and 8 GB with high-resolution graphics. You'll also need at least a mid-range phone or better to be able to play it. The minimum recommended specs are a processor clocked at 1.5 GHz or higher and you'll need at least 2 GB of RAM. Square Enix also requires Android 5.0 or higher, but points out that some devices will not be supported even if the device has a supported OS.

Luckily, the first installment of Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition is free so even if your phone can't run it, you're not out any dough. Nine additional chapters will follow the initial free chapter, but we don't have pricing details or a release schedule. This is being presented as a premium game, so expect a premium price tag to follow. Hit the button below to head over to the Play Store and sign up.

Original article (8/22/17): Final Fantasy XV is coming to mobile, but not in the way you might expect. Today at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, Square Enix let us in on its plans for the FFXV universe and it looks cute as hell.

The brand new Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition is a completely reimaged mobile version of the road trip through Eos. Square Enix describes it as "an all-new adventure that retells the beloved story of Final Fantasy XV." Pocket Edition will have an all new art style with touch-based controls, though it appears that all the same mechanics will carry over from the console version.

The story will be chopped up into ten episodes that will launch this fall on Android, iOS, and Windows 10. Square Enix says that the first episode will be free with the rest presumably coming as in-app purchases, although pricing information wasn't provided.

Pocket Edition joins a growing amount of new content based in and around the Final Fantasy VX universe. In addition to consistent story mode updates and a new multiplayer mode on console, it joins a mobile strategy game, a Forza Horizon 3 FFXV car, and an upcoming virtual reality fishing spin-off for PlayStation VR. Square Enix also announced yesterday that the full version of FFXV will launch with an enhanced version on Windows 10 early next year.
