Samsung reveals the Leader 8, its latest high-end flip phone

We have heard quite a few rumors regarding Samsung's high-end flip phone over the last few months, and can now confirm that most of them are true: the South Korean tech giant has just officially announced the device in China.

The premium flip phone, which bears model number SM-G9298, is actually called the Leader 8 and not W2018 as originally thought. It sports two 4.2-inch Super AMOLED displays with Full HD resolution and is powered by the Snapdragon 821 chipset. The Leader 8 also houses 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of expandable storage, and is made from aviation-grade aluminum alloy.

On the device's rear is a 12 MP primary camera with an f/1.7 aperture, while a 5 MP snapper appears on the front, and a 2,300 mAh battery with support for wireless charging keeps it powered. The Leader 8 weighs 235 grams, is 15.9 mm thick, and comes with quite a few features including Samsung Pay, Secure Folder, and S Voice.

Although unconfirmed, the device likely won't make it to Western Markets. In China, the Leader 8 will be exclusive to China Mobile in one color option — black. However, its exact release date and price haven't been announced yet. Based on its specs, it likely won't be an affordable smartphone. If it does get released outside of China somewhere down the line, it will probably only make its way to South Korea and maybe even a few other Asian markets.
