Do you think Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri could get along inside one speaker? Sonos seems to think so according to its FCC filing.
We've known for a while that Sonos was interested in partnering with the big boys to bring an AI assistant-powered speaker to the market. After all, the company has been a leader in the connected speaker market, and working with Amazon, Apple, and Google could provide unique opportunities for it to branch out into AI assistant-powered speakers. The new CEO of the company, Patrick Spence, previously stated in an internal memo that he was willing to work with "global leaders like Amazon, Google and (likely) Apple… [to bring] all the services that matter to every home."
The filing says that the S13 speaker features 'integrated voice control functionality' and supports 'multiple voice platforms and music services.'
Well, it looks like he wasn't joking: according to the recent FCC filing that references "Product model S13," Sonos might bring multiple voice assistants to its smart speaker. To be more specific, the filing says that the S13 speaker features "integrated voice control functionality" and supports "multiple voice platforms and music services." Not much is known beyond that, but if Sonos does manage to give you an option to choose between various AI assistants like Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri (or even Cortana), that could give the company an upper-hand when compared to its competitors.
The FCC filing also gives us a glimpse of the UI, seen above, which features a microphone, pause/play, two unknown icons to each side, and one line above the pause/play button. And as you may have expected, the S13 is said to have far-field microphones much like Echo devices and Google Home.
How do you think Sonos will incorporate multiple AI assistants into one speaker? Would you prefer to buy a speaker with multiple voice assistants? Let us know by leaving a comment below!
