Last year, Huawei announced its own mobile payment service that goes head to head with Android Pay and Samsung Pay, among others. Called Huawei Pay, it's currently only available in China but it looks like this might change in the near future.
The company has filed for a trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), which hints that it might bring its payment service to the old continent soon. When exactly might this happen is anyone's guess at this point. These things do take quite a bit of time to set up, as Huawei has to convince banks to get on board and support its service. This means that even if Huawei Pay makes its debut in Europe, it will initially only be available in one or two larger countries such as Germany, for example.
Mobile payment services are gaining popularity among consumers, and companies are trying to expand them to as many countries as possible. At this point, Huawei is far behind bigger players on the market like Samsung, Apple, and Google, which are already present in a number of countries across the globe.
The competition in this sector is heating up, as more companies are entering it with their own solutions. LG Pay made its debut back in June and is currently only available in South Korea. However, just like Huawei, LG also plans to bring its service to as many markets as possible, including those in Europe. Only time will tell which one will be the first to expand its payment business to the old continent.
