If you're a current Verizon Unlimited subscriber, you might have been disappointed by the recent news that the carrier has started reducing mobile video streaming to 480p and 720p. Which of these you'll be capped at depends on your individual plan, but none of Verizon's current Unlimited offerings provide a way for you to enjoy 1080p (Full HD) video or higher streaming on your phone — despite that some customers will have signed up to the plan specifically for this privilege.
Verizon has provided a reason as to why this course of action has been taken, but it's probably of little consolation for those affected. What might be a consolation for those affected is a recent piece of news from 9to5Mac, however, which claims that using NordVPN could bypass the video restrictions.
VPNs, or Virtual Private Networks, are typically used to bypass region restrictions, so that you could, for example, access Netflix content from another country. NordVPN is a popular VPN provider, and, reportedly, using its "private" service would mean Verizon wouldn't know if it was transferring video data, so it wouldn't be able to throttle it. It's said that the only way it could do that would be to throttle VPNs across the board — not all of which are used for bypassing deliberate restrictions (VPNs offer other completely legit home and office benefits).
This, obviously, would not be the type of usage that Verizon would approve of and it could be in violation of its terms of use; just beware of that going forward, and also that the ability for NordVPN to bypass the restrictions could change at any time.
That said, if you are interested in picking up NordVPN, you still have the opportunity to take advantage of one of our earlier offers: a two-year subscription for 72% off the regular price. To get in on that, use this link.
