Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus sales cross 20 million units

It looks like sales of the Samsung Galaxy S8 series are still going strong. According to a report from The Investor (citing market research firm Strategy Analytics), shipments of the two smartphones, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, crossed 20 million units sometime last month. The report also claims that Samsung shipped 278,800 Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus units per day on average since their launch in April.

While we don't know exactly how this compares to Galaxy S7 sales during a similar time frame last year, Samsung has stated that the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are more popular among consumers than their predecessors.

A couple of weeks ago, Samsung Mobile CEO DJ Koh said that sales of the company's latest flagships are 15 percent higher than those of the Galaxy S7 series. Additionally, the company also reportedly stated in a recent conference call that sales of the Galaxy S8 series are double that of the Galaxy S7 in some markets, despite the fact it was released several weeks after its South Korean rival LG's flagship, the LG G6. The Galaxy S7, meanwhile, already stood to achieve big sales because it was released a month before the LG G5 (and the G5 went on to be largely disappointing).

It will be interesting to see just how well the Galaxy S8 will sell in the upcoming months, with the Samsung gearing up to announce the Note 8 on August 23, which would then be released in September. The company expects that this, increased marketing costs, and the fact that the S8 series will be a few months old by then, will mean sales tail off.
