The next few weeks are shaping up to be quite busy in the world of smartphones, in no small part thanks to the upcoming IFA 2017 trade show. Samsung will introduce its Galaxy Note 8 just over a week ahead of the event, on August 23 in New York City, while LG will probably introduce the LG V30 on August 31 in Berlin, a day before IFA begins.
Both devices are expected to launch in the middle of September, but while we did have a guess that the V30 would go on sale on September 15, we didn't have any solid info on when the Note 8 would start shipping.
This changed earlier today when a report surfaced from South Korea. Apparently, the Galaxy Note 8 will debut the same day as its Korean rival: both handsets are expected to reach the South Korean market on September 15. This information comes from the Korean media ET News, which cites unnamed South Korean carrier officials for two different networks.

"We are going to sell the Galaxy Note 8 starting from the 15th of September," said one of them, while also adding that the price had not been set yet. The other source cited by ET News added that "there is almost zero chance" that Samsung would change the release date now.
If the rumored dates of release for the LG V30 and Galaxy Note 8 are accurate, this would be a rare occasion when rival companies release rival flagship products on the same day. I wonder if their press conferences will happen at the same time too?

With all that said, we still don't know exactly when these handsets would go on sale in the US, but the companies' flagship products tend to see a release in North America and Asia around the same time. As for which will be the bigger success, we expect all eyes to be on the new Note, especially after the Galaxy Note 7 debacle last year. The LG V30 might struggle to get a look in, really.
What do you think? Does LG stand a chance of taking the spotlight from Samsung? Make sure you let us know in the comments.
