- With the release of the Moto Z3, Motorola has fulfilled its commitment to the Moto Mod concept.
- However, the company says that Moto Mods will continue to be a part of its mobile strategy going forward.
- The company also said that the 5G Moto Mod unveiled yesterday will not be the last Moto Mod.
When Motorola brought the first set of Moto Mods to the masses, it made a clear promise: the company would support Moto Mods over the length of three generations of devices.
Yesterday, Motorola launched the Moto Z3, which supports Moto Mods, and will be the exclusive device to support the 5G Moto Mod. With that launch, the company fulfilled its three generations promise.
Luckily for Mod fans the world over, that doesn't mean that Moto Mods will now become a thing of the past. According to Engadget – which spoke with Gaurang Telang, the product manager for Motorola's flagship devices – Moto Mods will "absolutely" be a part of the company's mobile strategy going forward.
Telang further clarified that 5G Moto Mod will not be the last Mod.
Engadget, unfortunately, wasn't able to get any definitive information about what kinds of other Mods are on the way, when they will be released, or how often they'll get launched. But everyone within Motorola affirmed that the company is devoted to Mods and will continue to push the innovative concept.
While that's all good news, there is a little bit of a caveat. Shakil Barkat – Motorola's VP of Global Product Development – admitted that most of the things Mods could do have already been covered. That means that while the 5G Moto Mod may not be the last new Mod we see, there might not be many Mods that will be truly unique like the 5G Mod.
What do you think? Are you a big fan of the Moto Mod lineup and are thus happy to hear they aren't going anywhere anytime soon? Or do you not care for Moto Mods? Let us know in the comments!
