Yu, a subsidiary of Indian OEM Micromax, came out of a slumber today and announced the launch of its new budget smartphone, the Yu Ace.
Entry-level specifications
The specifications sheet of the Yu Ace is plain vanilla as one would expect in a budget smartphone. There's a quad-core MediaTek 6739 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage – expandable with a microSD card.
The highlight, of course, is the large 4000mAh battery – which is a rarity in this segment. Surprisingly, it's a removable battery which is a rarity these days.
Yu Ace sports a 5.45-inch HD+ (720p) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. In terms of camera, there's a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. The Yu Ace packs in a fingerprint sensor at the back as well as Face Unlock feature.
Yu Ace runs on Android Oreo, and it was announced that the phone will get Android Pie update soon – although no timeline was shared for the same.
Not holding any punches back
Shubhodip Pal, Micromax's Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer, believes that Yu Ace is a gamechanger in the sub-6K category.
With a tagline – Forget M i. Yu Decide – the company clearly wants to take on Xiaomi's budget lineup, including the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5A. The comparison and the overt messaging though is a tad petty.
Price and availability
Yu Ace comes in three color variants – Charcoal Grey, Electric Blue, and Rose Gold – and is priced at 5,999 rupees. It will go on sale exclusively on Flipkart starting September 6 at 12PM.
The company has shared that there would be another memory variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage that would be available towards the end of September.
