  • The Lenovo Yoga C630 convertible Windows laptop has been announced in Berlin.
  • This is the first laptop running the new Snapdragon 850 chipset.
  • Lenovo's new machine goes on sale from September, for a starting price of 999 euros.

The initial wave of Snapdragon-powered laptops hit stores with the Snapdragon 835 chipset, even though the more powerful Snapdragon 845 was already in smartphones. So we were glad to see Qualcomm announce the beefier Snapdragon 850 earlier this year.

Now, Lenovo has announced the Yoga C630, the first laptop running the new chipset. And the device-maker is claiming up to 30 percent better performance compared to the first generation of Snapdragon-powered Windows laptops. The new chipset has upgraded CPU cores and a more capable GPU compared to the older Snapdragon 835.

Hopefully, the processor upgrade is noticeable because performance has been the Achilles' heel of Snapdragon laptops so far, according to several reviews. Other noteworthy specs include 4GB or 8GB of RAM, and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage.

Snapdragon machines usually excel in the connectivity and battery life departments, and the Yoga C630 seems to deliver on paper. The Lenovo machine packs Qualcomm's X20 cellular modem for speeds of up to 1.2Gbps, compared to 1Gbps on previous Snapdragon laptops. The device-maker is also claiming "25+ hours" of local video playback, ostensibly with the brightness down and connectivity disabled.

As for the actual design, you've got a convertible form factor and a 13.3-inch full HD IPS touchscreen, with the total package weighing in at 1.2 kilograms. Yo

ur I/O options consist of a fingerprint scanner, two USB Type-C ports (one on each side), a headphone jack, and a SIM card tray. Unfortunately, there's no full-sized USB port here, so you'll need a dongle if you've got legacy peripherals.

The Lenovo Yoga C630 is set to go on sale in EMEA markets from September 2018, with a starting price of 999 euros (~$1,169). A Lenovo representative confirmed that the convertible will be coming to the U.S. as well, but pricing and release details aren't known just yet.
