- Samsung Galaxy Note 9 users with Bixby 2.0 can now remap the Bixby button using bxActions.
- However, there is still no way to completely disable the Bixby button.
- Some features of the app will not work on the Galaxy Note 9.
Bixby button remapping app bxActions has been updated to allow Samsung Galaxy Note 9 users with Bixby 2.0 to remap their phone's Bixby button. This update comes despite Samsung removing the option for Samsung Galaxy Note 9 users to completely disable the button.
While I haven't been able to test the app out, according to the bxActions Play Store listing, users who install the app can now remap the button to launch actions from the lock screen. They can also select a separate action for a long press. Tasks the app can launch include turning on the flashlight, taking screenshots, or even launching Google Assistant.
However, bxActions warns that not all features are supported with Bixby 2.0. The company goes as far as to recommend that users not update Bixby on their device if they want to avoid losing functionality. It also warns that Samsung may block the app with future updates to Bixby, so be sure to check before updating Bixby in the future.
Really, it's no surprise that Samsung is making it harder for users to remap the Bixby button. Samsung has been working on Bixby 2.0 for a long time now and it likely wants to get as many people using the service as possible. While accidental presses of the Bixby button can be annoying, if I'd just spent $1,000 on a Galaxy Note 9, I'd probably give the new version of Bixby a chance before making the choice to remove it.
Still, it's nice to know the option to remap the button is currently there should you decide that Bixby 2.0 is not something you will use.
