- Samsung launched the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5 today.
- The press release touts the tablet as "budget-friendly" and "fit for the whole family" to use.
- But the tablet costs nearly $400, which is not-so-budget-friendly and is too expensive for small children to use.
Samsung launched two tablets today. We already told you about the high-end, incredibly powerful Samsung Galaxy Tab S4, and now we're going to tell you about the other one: the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5.
Samsung touts the Galaxy Tab A 10.5 as "fit for the whole family" with "high-quality entertainment features" and a "budget-friendly price."
That budget-friendly price? 329 euros (~$380) for the Wi-Fi version and 389 euros (~$450) for the LTE model, according to SamMobile. Samsung says the price points globally won't be a straight conversion, but you can expect to likely pay about $400 for the tablet when it launches here in America.
I don't know if Samsung is pulling a Mitt Romney here or if the company actually thinks that a $400 tablet is a "budget" device. What's more, the press release on the tablet focuses on the features that make it good for children to use.
I don't know about you, but $400 is a lot to spend on something I'm going to let kids play with. If I wanted a kid-friendly tablet, I'd buy a used beater for a hundred bucks or so on eBay, or buy a new one that's specifically designed for kids, like the Fire HD 10 Kids Edition for only $200.
Strange promotional language aside, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5 seems like a good piece of hardware if you can afford it. It's got a 10.5-inch, 1,920 x 1,200 LCD display, a Snapdragon 450 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage (expandable up to 400GB via a microSD slot), a 7,300mAh battery, Android 8.1 Oreo, and an 8MP rear camera with the addition of a 5MP shooter on the front.
According to SamMobile, the device will go for sale on August 24, which is the rumored on-sale date of another upcoming Samsung device.
