Welcome to the 218th edition of Android Apps Weekly! Here are the headlines from the last week:
- UC Browser hit a bit of trouble this week. The app disappeared from the Play Store entirely. Allegedly, the developers used some fairly shady and misleading techniques to increase their download numbers. UC Browser has denied those allegations. Google hasn't made any statements and we really don't expect them to. The app may be back in 30 days.
- Google released a study this week. Hackers apparently steal one million accounts and passwords per month. That includes figures from stuff like the big Yahoo security breach along with other sites like MySpace, Equifax, LinkedIn, and other sites with recent security issues. The data Google collected should be helpful for security companies moving forward. Despite the large sounding numbers, one million per month is actually a very small percentage of accounts out there.
- A bunch of Android games are on sale right now. That includes some fairly good games as well. Some of the games include Downwell ($0.99), Hitman Sniper (Free), Heroes of Steel ($0.99), and over a dozen others. We imagine that more discounts are coming when Black Friday rolls around. However, this is still a good chance to get some decent games on the cheap.
- Google changed their Play Store ToS again this last week. This time it's to clean up the Accessibility Services. The point of Accessibility is to help the disabled use their phone. However, many apps use it to expand their functionality in ways that Android typically doesn't allow. Apps that abuse the privilege are likely going away. However, some, like LastPass and other password managers, will remain safe for now. We'll keep you updated as we learn more.
- YouTube announced some big changes this week. People watching music videos can now order concert tickets during playback. That's kind of neat. However, the bigger news comes in early December. YouTube will no longer show suggested video links. Internal studies showed that only about 5% of people clicked on them anyway. Thus, YouTube is removing them for good. That change happens on December 14th. Finally, the service is looking to block adult-themed videos that look like they're for little kids because that's apparently a thing awful people are doing.

Farmer Sim 2018 is finally out. This year's iteration adds some fun stuff from the 2017 version. The game features decent graphics, tons of farming activities and equipment, and more. Players build and maintain farms. They also unlock various things as they progress. The game also includes a fairly impressive weather system, a day-night cycle, and a career mode along with achievements. Fans of farming sims won't have a lot of other options for good farming games this year. This one is right up there.
ModelAN3DPro is a rare, new 3D modeling app. It lets you load photos into the app. The app creates 3D models from the contents of the photograph. Some of the other features include support for Google Cardboard, support for OBJ files, and even support for Minecraft skins. This app is not easy to use at first. It takes time to learn how everything works. It is free, though. The app does have a few bugs, but nothing too serious.
Mighty Battles is the latest game from Hothead Games. This is a fairly standard card-collecting combat game. You build a squad with a cast of up to 40 collectible units. Those units then do battle against either the AI or other players in the PvP mode. You also have a base to build and defend. We'll be honest. This one is a freemium game and a bit of a cash grab. That may steer some people away and that's fine. The game is fun for at least a little while, though.
Drop Recipes is a new cooking app. It looks and feels a lot like other cooking apps. However, this one also includes support for several smart home gadgets like a Drop Scale and several types of appliances. You don't need that stuff to use the app, though. It comes with a bunch of recipes to start with. The step-by-step guides are actually really nice with an included timer for cooking. It does have a few quirks. You need an account to browse recipes, for instance. That isn't great, but account creation doesn't take long.
Undervault is a new rogue-like dungeon crawler. This one isn't for the faint of heart. This one features random dungeons, permanent death, and high difficulty. Players have to fight, mine, and discover various things in order to continue progressing through the game. The graphics are a little rough even despite its retro style. However, it makes up for it by being sound in terms of mechanics and game play. You can get it for free. The full version costs $2.99.
