Xiaomi has detailed a new trade-in program for the Indian market designed to make its handsets even more affordable for consumers. Buyers can take advantage of the Mi Exchange program at any of the company's 11 Mi Home stores across the region.
Trade-in schemes have already proven to be popular in India, with manufacturers like Samsung and OnePlus and retailers like Flipkart already running similar programs.
Xiaomi itself has dabbled with exchange programs in the past by offering discount coupons to customers who recycled any of their discontinued phones. The Chinese OEM's latest scheme appears to be the real deal, however, as the company has partnered with Cashify to ensure the exchange process runs smoothly.
As you'd expect, the discount you'll get on a new phone depends on the condition of your old device. The resale price is decided by Cashify and Xiaomi has stressed that the final offer is non-negotiable.
The caveat is that you can only trade-in a single device against your purchase, so you can't cash in on a bunch of old phones in one go. There is a neat pickup service, though.
Here, the customer pays the full amount for the new Xiaomi device and Cashify will pick up the old phone from your home at a later date and refund the difference.
Xiaomi's Mi Exchange program represents another small step in he company's expansion plans in India. Earlier this month, Xiaomi ended Samsung's dominance in the region by matching its market share for Q3 2017.
