  • Motorola will apparently launch a phone called the Motorola Edge Lite.
  • The name suggests an affordable price tag, but the leak suggests a mid-range phone.
  • It could house a Snapdragon 730G or 765G chipset.

Motorola re-entered the flagship game with the Motorola Edge Plus back in April. The pricey $999 smartphone takes aim at other flagships like the Galaxy S20 and OnePlus 8, but as we noted in our review, it has a few issues that hold it back from greatness. Alongside the premium phone, the brand also launched the £549 (~$681) Motorola Edge with watered-down specs and the Snapdragon 765 processor. We've not seen or tested the mid-range 5G phone, but new information suggests it'll soon have a sibling — the Motorola Edge Lite.

According to tipster Ishan Agarwal and Pricebaba, the company is readying the Motorola Edge Lite as the third installment in the series. Its name suggests that it could be the cheapest phone in the Edge line. But according to Agarwal, it might get the Snapdragon 765G or 730G processor and a mid-range price.

The leak also confirms that the model number of the so-called Motorola Edge Lite is XT2075. The same model number was spotted on FCC yesterday. It also reportedly appeared on a European retail website with 5G connectivity, 6GB RAM, and 128GB storage.

No other specs of the alleged Motorola Edge Lite have leaked till now. However, given that it appeared on FCC, the launch shouldn't be too far off.

Motorola Edge Lite: 4G or 5G phone?

Motorola still has to launch the regular Edge in the US and other regions. It certainly doesn't make much sense to have two Snapdragon 765 phones in the market at the same time, unless one is drastically cheaper than the other, which again is doubtful.

The other alternative is the Snapdragon 730G but it doesn't feature a 5G modem whereas the aforementioned specs point to 5G support on the phone. As you can tell, the information at hand is pretty scant and contradictory and this might not be the best time to make any assumptions about the Motorola Edge Lite.

All we hope for is that Motorola doesn't muck up the series with overlapping specs, making it even more difficult for buyers to choose its products.

We'll keep an eye out for the Motorola Edge Plus and update this article as and when we know more.
