Update: February 5, 2020 (12:25 PM ET): We've updated the article with potentially leaked hands-on photos of the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro 5G, more information about the device names, charging specs, and new launch event rumors. Read on for more details!
Original article: January 4, 2020 (4:37 AM ET): It's 2020 and Xiaomi has a big year planned ahead. The company intends to launch more than 10 5G phones and the new Mi 10 series is expected to kick off this spate of launches.
Xiaomi has already confirmed the existence of the Mi 10 series, and references to the Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro were found in the MIUI 11 v20.1.6 code base with model numbers M2001J2C and M2001J1C, respectively. Moreover, specs and prices for the two 2020 Xiaomi flagships have also leaked, and we got a possible hands-on look at the premium variant. The duo seems to differ in terms of their camera setup, RAM configurations, and battery capacities.
Here are all the Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro rumors we've come across so far.
Xiaomi Mi 10 design
As far as design is concerned, there's not much we know for certain. In the later part of January, a Weibo tipster uploaded images of what they say is the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro 5G. The image watermarks and packaging suggest that this is the name, and the images show a few possible design details about the upcoming device.
We can make out what appears to be a curved display with a camera cutout on the left-hand side and a curved glass back panel. It also looks like the handset could feature a quad rear camera offering a 108MP primary sensor and speaker grilles at the top and bottom of the device. We can't quite make out whether the phone has an IR blaster, but we definitely don't see a headphone port.
The pictured device also comes in a deep, electric blue, but we don't know what other color variants it could sport. We also don't know what design elements will differ between Mi 10 devices since the above pictures only claim to be of the Pro 5G variant. Keep in mind, none of these images have been officially confirmed yet, so take this information with a grain of salt.
Xiaomi Mi 10 specs
The Xiaomi Mi 10 is believed to be the more affordable one of the lot. As per leaked specs, the Mi 10 could feature a 6.5-inch 90Hz OLED display.
Xiaomi has already confirmed that the device will get the Snapdragon 865 silicon, meaning it will support dual-mode 5G connectivity.
The Xiaomi Mi 10 is also expected to have a quad-camera setup, with a Sony IMX686 sensor leading the pack. This is the same 64MP sensor featured on the Redmi K30. Other sensors in the rear camera setup are said to include a 20MP secondary sensor, a 12MP sensor (likely telephoto), and a 5MP snapper (possibly for depth sensing). It might also feature 30x digital zoom.
Rumors suggest that the Mi 10 will house a 4,500mAh battery.
Same as the Mi 9 Pro, Xiaomi could bring 40W wired fast charging and 30W wireless fast charging to the phone. If so, you can expect the phone to fully charge under an hour. The Mi 10 is also said to support 10W reverse wireless charging to juice up other devices.
Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro specs
The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro is said to feature the same 6.5-inch 90Hz OLED display as the Mi 10. The flagship Snapdragon 865 SoC will also power the Pro variant.
The phone could get a 4,500mAh battery and support either 65W or 66W fast charging, as well as 40W wireless fast charging.
The Mi 10 Pro apparently ups the camera setup and houses a 108MP primary shooter. We previously saw Xiaomi use the high resolution camera on the Mi Note 10. A 48MP secondary camera, a 12MP possible telephoto lens, and an 8MP camera could complete the setup.
Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro price and availability
We originally thought the Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro would be unveiled in February at Mobile World Congress 2020. Unfortunately, due to the current coronavirus outbreak in China, it looks like these devices might not see an offline launch event. As spotted by PlayfulDroid, Xiaomi will most likely host an online-only launch event February 13. The company should officially announce the event February 7.
Unlike last year, Xiaomi is expected to reveal both phones at the same time. The Mi 10 Pro should be made available for purchase February 18, but customers will probably be able to preorder the device right after the launch event. The Mi 10 will most likely go on sale February 14, the day after the event.
The same source who outed the specs has also leaked prices for the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro. The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro is said to start at 3,799 Yuan (~$545) for the 12GB of RAM + 128GB storage variant. The 12GB of RAM + 256GB storage model is rumored to cost 4,099 Yuan (~$588), while the 12GB of RAM + 512GB storage configuration could be priced at 4,499 Yuan (~$645).
The Mi 10, on the other hand, is expected to come in three configurations: 8GB of RAM + 128GB storage, 8GB RAM + 256GB storage, and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage. Prices of the phone are suggested to start at 3,100 Yuan (~$444).
So that's all we know about the Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro so far. Be sure to bookmark this page as we will update it with new rumors and leaks as we spot them.
